It started with 1,000 empty beer cartons. Residents in Magdeburg, Germany put together donated books from scratch to create a 24×7 library that went on (with the help of designer Karo Architekten) to become the “2011 Brit Insurance Architecture Award” winner. Named “the Library of Confidence”, the project now houses a reading cafe, a stage, and lots of greenery and the public can walk up to it anytime of the day to pick up a book.
