This stunning looking sofa was conceived and created by surrealist artist Salvador Dali in 1938. A total of five sets were made and were inspired by the voluptuous, 30′s Hollywood actress, Mae West. However, whilst Dali did have an interest in furniture design, they were effectively non-functional.
It has been reported that Dali said that one of the inspirations for the sofa was a group of rather uncomfortable rocks near his home in Cadaques, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. This set was part of an exhibition of the artist’s works, “Mind of a Genious”, that was staged at the Singapore ArtScience Museum in July-October, 2011.
